Growing Haze - 10 tips for cultivation

Haze strains have been popular for years and regularly win trophies at Cannabis Cups. Many growers are reluctant to try this sativa strain, as there are a few things to consider in order to achieve an excellent result. I have summarised 10 important tips for the correct cultivation of Haze. There are a few things to keep in mind, then the Haze ladies will delight you with huge yields and their inimitable high.

10 tips for growing Haze:

1. fertilise only a little
Sativas usually take longer to grow than indicas, but they need fewer nutrients and react quickly to overfertilisation. Therefore, give your Haze ladies less fertiliser than indicated in the fertiliser schedule and only increase the fertiliser if they show signs of deficiency.

2. keep them short and stocky
Sativas grow extremely tall and stretch enormously. Try to keep your Haze short and bushy. You can prune it in the growing phase or LST (low-stress-training) it. It is important that she gets many thick side shoots and shoots up less.

3. bring your lamp as close as possible to the tops of the plants.
Sativas naturally grow long and limp. A good way to limit this is to bring the lamps as close as possible to the crowns. Therefore, do not use heat-producing light sources such as sodium vapour lamps during the growing phase. LEDs, Fluorescent tubes or Energy-saving lamps emit much less heat and can therefore be placed closer to the plants. This prevents the haze from stretching too much.

4. tie down the tips
Use a ScroG (Screen of Green) net to make the tips of the plants spread out horizontally. This will give you an even plant canopy and allow the flowers to take up all the available space without giving little or no light to shoots further down.

5. give the roots space
Larger plant pots lead to bigger, bushier plants with more yield. Haze strains have enormous root growth. Give them enough space, they will thank you for it when you harvest.

6. give them time
Some Haze strains have a flowering time of up to 20 weeks. Give them the time they need. If you want to harvest after a short time, a Haze is not the right strain for you.

7. send them into flowering earlyon
Haze plants stretch enormously during the first weeks of the flowering phase. You should therefore send them into flower early, they will still grow into large plants. The ideal time is when the plants are about 30cm high.

8. support heavy branches and buds
Many Haze strains grow such thick and heavy buds that they cannot support them properly. Help them by supporting heavy branches and buds or tying them up.

9. rinse the Haze well towards the end of flowering.
During the long vegetation period of the Haze, salts and minerals accumulate in the grow substrate and in the plant cells. Rinse your plants with pure water for the last 2 weeks before harvesting so that all salts and minerals are washed out or transferred. This will give you the unique Haze aroma.

10. choose the right harvest time
Although Haze strains take longer than other cannabis strains, it is worth the time. Let your plants mature properly and wait until the trichomes turn milky and amber before harvesting.
