The different ways of taking cannabis

Types of cannabis ingestion

Medical cannabis is used as an effective medicine by patients all over the world to alleviate and treat symptoms of sometimes severe diseases. Cannabis has even been shown to be helpful for conditions for which there are currently no or no satisfactory treatment options and for which other forms of treatment have failed.

Numerous studies have shown that the side effects produced by cannabis are extremely low or even non-existent, especially in comparison to conventional medicines. Severe side effects, so it could be shown, are not to be expected with the use of medical cannabis. In various studies and investigations in the USA with long-term users, no significant or relevant consequential damage of cannabis use could be proven. Countless cannabis users, some of whom have been using cannabis medicinally for decades, enjoy excellent health and are convinced of the benefits of marijuana because it has few or no side effects.

When cannabis is smoked, however, the smoke and combustion that results can also cause damage and irritation to the lungs and respiratory tract. Any combustion produces carcinogenic substances, as does the combustion of cannabis, even if this is less with cannabis than with tobacco. Other forms of cannabis consumption are therefore even less risky and are in some cases even more suitable for medical use.

1. possibility: smoking

Smoke cannabis  Smoke cannabis

Smoking is one of the most effective methods (although not the healthiest) of use. The effect is immediate and can be very precisely dosed and controlled by the patient.

If you decide to consume medical cannabis in the form of smoking, here are some helpful tips to minimize the dangers of tar and other toxins:

If you need a higher THC content due to a disease, certain symptoms and your own personal physical condition, then rather use cannabis strains that have a correspondingly high THC content, instead of smoking a lot of low-THC cannabis (strains) forever. This way you need less inhalation to get the same effective dose.

  • There are activated carbon filters that can be twisted into the joint and filter tar and other toxins from the smoke. The result is a mild, non-scratchy smoke.
  • Use only papers that are free of chemical additives.
  • Clean your bong, bubbler as often as possible to remove tar and other residues instead of smoking along.
  • The healthier alternative to smoking is vaping, which vaporizes cannabis and its active ingredients, but does not burn them.

This is how medical vaporizers work:
The Vaporizer heats the cannabis flowers slowly to a specific temperature so that the active ingredients of the plant are transformed into vapor without burning. The harmful components as in smoking are not included. Vaporizing can provide the same therapeutic benefits as smoking but without ingesting unhealthy toxins.
Also, when using a vaporizer, by setting different temperatures, the different cannabinoids in the cannabis can be enhanced or eclipsed, thus achieving different therapeutic effects with the same medicinal strain. 2nd option: eat medical cannabis

Eat cannabis cooking with cannabis

The effects of cannabis eaten are quite different compared to smoking or vaporizing. Edibles that have been infused with marijuana work slower, longer, and give more physical effects than mental and head effects. The effects are often described as heavier and deeper. This is especially beneficial for people with chronic pain.
However, one should be careful when eating foods that are fortified with marijuana. It is easy to overdose on this. When cannabis is eaten, it cannot be dosed as easily and directly as when smoked or vaporized. It can take longer until an effect occurs and because the cookies taste otherwise very tasty, some people tend to eat one more. After 1-2 hours, one suddenly hits the effect, which is then possibly much too strong. Therefore, you should first start with a smaller dose and wait long enough (at least 2 hours), whether the effect is really too weak, often only then comes the surprise.

In our recipe information you will find quantity information for the medical marijuana that will be added. These quantities are always based on the needs and experience of our team. For each patient, the helpful, effective, and comfortable dose may be different. We tend to advise patients trying cannabis prescriptions for the first time to stay well below our quantity guidelines and then slowly approach or use them when personal experience is already available.

It is also important to recognize here that eating raw cannabis provides far fewer medicinal effects and is therefore not recommended. Cannabis edibles are made with Cannabis Butter, Cannabis Coconut Oil or Cannabis Olive Oil are produced. This is also often referred to as infused oil or butter. Recipes for making medicinal cannabis oils can be found at here.

With the cannabis oil or cannabis butter, the therapeutically effective cannabinoids of the marijuana plant are brought into the food. There are a wide variety of foods that can be infused with cannabis: Brownies, cakes, pastries, soups, candies, snacks, dips and many more.
Oral ingestion of cannabis in the form of edibles is especially used by people suffering from sleep disorders, chronic/severe pain, and spasticity. This method is obviously less suitable for nausea or vomiting.

3rd option: use of tinctures

Tinctures can also be made from cannabis. These tinctures can also be added to food, liquids or cosmetic products. Applied directly in small amounts under the tongue, tinctures bring the most and fastest effect. This form of application is especially useful for nausea and vomiting, and also in the context of chemotherapy. Tinctures are made in the same way as cannabis oils, by infusing high-quality medicinal cannabis flowers. However, tinctures are alcohol-based. To make this, the cannabis flowers are placed in alcohol, where the various medicinal cannabinoids dissolve and transfer into the alcohol. Typically, patients start with a dosage of 2 drops under the tongue (max. 2x per day). The amount is then increased until the desired effect and targeted effects are achieved. A recipe for a cannabis tincture can be found at here

4th option: cannabis topicals (cannabis creams, cannabis ointments, skin and massage oils with cannabis).

Cannabis Topicals Cannabis Topicals

Another alternative route of administration for medical cannabis that is free of psychoactive reactions ( unless these are applied to mucous membranes) is topical application. Cannabis topicals are applied directly to the skin as lotions, balms, ointments, sprays, etc. External application of cannabis products is also widely and effectively used in pain management. Cannabis topicals can also naturally contain different cannabinoid compositions, as can the tinctures and cannabis oils, depending on the cannabinoid profile of the marijuana strain used for them. The topical application of medicinal cannabis ointments has been able to help many patients treat and combat arthritis, cracked skin, eczema, sunburn, muscle pain, tendonitis, atopic dermatitis, and other skin conditions.

It continues to be used to relieve the painful symptoms of shingles and has been shown many times to be helpful for the unfortunate and complicating course of shingles, namely post-zoster neuralgia (PHN), an inflammation of the nerves.

Cannabis topicals have been shown to not only have anti-inflammatory properties, but also have antibacterial effects and speed up healing time for injuries.

4th possibility: medicinal cannabis in beverages

Cannabis in drinks Cannabis in drinks

The flowers, leaves and stems of the cannabis plant can be used to make medicinal teas. This process is quite simple. As with other herbal teas, water is brought to a boil and poured over the flowers or leaves. See making cannabis tea. However, similar to cannabis edibles and tinctures, alcohol, oil, or butter must be added in order for the THC to dissolve. THC is not soluble in water. Milk, which also contains fat, is often used.

Cannabis tea varies in strength depending on the type and amount of ingredients. You should also start with a small dosage and increase it until the desired therapeutic effect occurs. It makes sense to test different dosages and cannabis varieties to find the personal "ideal dosage and variety". Also the combination of different varieties to increase the cannabinoid diversity can often be helpful.

Medicinal cannabis can also be added to lemonade, juices, shakes, or other beverages by adding a few drops of Tincture drops.

5th option: Wax and BHO

k1 Bra and the medical application
In Wax or BHO lie Cannabinoids in very high concentration before. These products can be eaten or used in teas. It has very little odor, is in solid form and you can achieve an intense effect with small quantities.
With BHO, an immediate rapid effect can be achieved in the treatment of pain.

Concentrates can also be consumed in smaller amounts. For patients with a higher tolerance to the effects of cannabinoids, these preparations can provide more significant relief from their symptoms. These medications offer the advantage of containing a higher concentration of cannabinoids with less plant material, resulting in a cleaner and healthier smoke.

medical use cannabis concentrates medical use cannabis concentrates

Absolute prerequisite for the medical use of BHO is the professional and clean production (with appropriate purification processes) of these concentrates using high quality cannabis flowers. Oil and cannabis waxes are consumed e.g. by heating a titanium nail in a bong, over which a glass dome is then placed so that the vapor collects, less by direct burning. More on the subject of BHO you will find here
