critical-mass CBD, medical cannabis strain with lots of CBD

Since medicinal cannabis is being used in more and more countries, strains are being bred for their medicinal benefits. Critical Mass CBD, a joint project between Dinafem and the CBD Crew, is no exception. Critical Mass CBD has a balanced and often medically needed THC-CBD ratio of almost 1:1, with an average of 5% CBD and THC.

It is an indica-dominant cannabis strain that grows more like a sativa despite about 80% indica genes and still stretches enormously during the flowering phase. However, the flowering time is characterised by the indica genetics, so that indoors she is already ready for harvest after about 8 flowering times. Outdoors, it can be harvested at the beginning of October and is very resistant to parasites and fungi, so that it is also suitable for Central Europe. It is considered the best outdoor medicinal strain by Dinafem, but can also be grown indoors with great success.

The smell and taste of Critical Mass are very sweet with a slight piney undertone. The effect is pleasantly relaxing without being psychedelic. This is where the high CBD and nu quite low THC content shows, which is the medicinal benefit of this new strain. It is used for inflammation, muscle tension, depressive disorders, stress, pain and arthritis.

Growreport Critical Mass CBD by Dinafem & CBD Crew

Critical Mass CBD was grown indoors in a 1m² grow box, organically on soil. The following equipment was used:

Germination and 1st week:

Critical Mass CBD20 feminised seeds were made to germinate. The germination rate was 100% and the young plants were lit with an energy-saving lamp with 150W dual spectrum during the first week. They developed very evenly at 25°C and 65% humidity. During this time, only Rhizotonic and Neem were used for prevention. The root system developed very well and quickly, so that many fine roots were already visible after one week.

Week 2 and 3:

From the 2nd week onwards, a 400W sodium lamp with a growth light source was used in addition to the ESL. Watering is done with Canna Bio Vega and BioRhizotonic. Fertilisation scheme watered. The pH value of the water is 6.3.

3 weeks after germination, the plants have reached a height of 20-23 cm, so on the 23rd day, the lighting time is set to 12 hours, thus initiating flowering. During the flowering phase, the plants are lit with 400W NDL Flower Spectrum and additionally with ESL 150W Dual. At the beginning of the flowering phase, the 16 strongest plants were selected and only these were left in the growroom. The plants were fertilised normally with Canna Bio Vega and Rhizotonic.

4th to 5th week (1st-2nd week of flowering):

Canna Bio Flores and Bio Booster are used from the beginning of flowering. 5 days after initiation, the first flower buds appear. The temperature is 25°C and the humidity is lowered to 45-50%. The plants still stretch enormously during the first 3 weeks of flowering, reaching a final height of 83-89 cm at harvest.

6th-8th week (3rd-5th week of flowering):

The plants stretch only a little, the flowers slowly become larger and the amount of flower fertiliser is continuously increased. The plants grow very evenly and take up the available space by themselves, so that trimming is not necessary.

In the 8th week, the flowering clearly starts to increase. The buds grow and get more volume. The many resin glands can now be seen very well with the naked eye. The plants emit a very sweet scent.

9-11th week (6th-8th week of flowering):

The plants no longer grow in height, but only increase in flower size. A clear sativa growth form can be recognised. However, the buds become rather round and firm, as is typical for the indication.

In the 6th week of flowering, the resin slowly starts to turn cloudy. The plants get fertiliser for the last time and are only rinsed with pH-neutral water for the last 2 weeks. According to Dinafem, harvesting is possible after 8 weeks of flowering. However, we decide to let the plants flower for another week, as the trichomes are not yet amber after 56 days.

12th week (9th week of flowering) and harvest:

During the 9th week of flowering the trichomes turn amber, so that exactly 85 days after germination can be fruited. The flowers are very compact and resinous and are relatively easy to manicure.

Critical Mass CBD Harvest

After drying, we got 460g of very resinous and compact weed. The smell and aroma were very sweet with slightly spicy undertones. The effects are relaxing but not tiring, an indica dominant strain for the day.
