What do I have to bear in mind with the Indoorgrow from Automatics?

Automatics, i.e. autoflowering cannabis strains, are becoming more and more popular. While the first generations were still tiny with correspondingly low yields, the autoflowering strains of the latest generations differ only slightly from normal, photoperiod strains, especially when you consider how little time passes from seed germination to harvest. In many outdoor gardens, but also in Guerilla Grows automatics have become a permanent fixture. But autoflowering strains also have their appeal for indoor growers. If you want to harvest continuously, you don't need a second box for the growth sphse with automitics. As they flower independently of the lighting time, plants can grow and flower simultaneously in the same growroom. Automatics also have a shorter cycle and are ideal for boxes with limited height because of their lower growth behaviour. However, many growers also use the free space in their grow box to fill it with Automatics. We have compiled the best automatics for the grow box in The 28 best indoor autoflowering cannabis strains together the best automatics for the grow box. General information about autoflowering strains can be found in our report Autoflowering - What is it and what do you need to keep in mind?In the following you will find tips on how to make your Automatics grow well in the growroom.

What do I have to bear in mind with the Indoorgrow from Automatics?

BioBizz Light MixWhich earth at Automatics?

Autoflowering varieties love airy soil with low nutrient levels at the beginning. This allows the roots to develop perfectly, which is even more important for these sprinters than photoperiod strains. Normal pot plant soil is not suitable for autoflowering cannabis strains (actually not for normal strains either). It is best to use a lightly pre-fertilised growing soil, such as the Light Mix from BioBizz is used.

If you want to mix your own soil for Automatics, it is best to use equal parts compost, peat and perlite.

Auto Ultimate in Air-PotThe right pot size

Especially for automatic varieties, a sufficiently large pot must be chosen so that the plant and the roots can develop ideally. A healthy and strong root system leads to a vital plant with a correspondingly lush yield. The pot should have a capacity of 1-3 L for young plants and 9-12 L in the flowering phase.

Great autoflowering strains such as the Dark Devil Auto from Sweet Seeds or AutoUltimate from Dutch Passion can be planted in correspondingly larger pots. Make sure that the roots do not touch the edge of the pot. Unlike normal photoperiod varieties, automatics will otherwise stop growing. Therefore, special pots like the Air-Pots are recommended, as the roots develop better in them and the yields are correspondingly higher.

Repotting with automatic strains

As automatics grow and flower at a crazy speed, stress is very bad for them, as they have no time to recover from it and the yields are correspondingly smaller. Therefore, autoflowering cannabis strains should only be repotted once at the most and that before they start flowering or put straight into their "final pot" where they will flower afterwards.

The optimal lighting of autoflowering varieties

Automatic strains start flowering by themselves regardless of the lighting time, which means that the light cycle should not be changed to 12h/12h. There are some growers who swear by continuous lighting of their automatics, but auto-flowering strains also need a rest period, as roots are formed during this time. We have achieved the best results with continuous 18h/6h lighting, i.e. the plants are lit for 18 hours a day from germination to harvest and are left in darkness for 6 hours.

Automatics in particular are excellent for growing with LEDsboth during the growth and flowering phase.

Fertilise Automatics correctly

You should start fertilising autoflowering cannabis strains indoors 2 weeks after germination. Before that, they should only be watered with Optimum pH value watering. First, start with a growth fertiliser and give it until one week after the beginning of flowering. Depending on the variety, this is a period of about 2-3 weeks. After the 1st week of flowering, the substrate is thoroughly rinsed with clear water so that excess nutrient salts are removed and do not caked into the soil. From now on, flowering fertiliser is given for 4 weeks (5 weeks for longer flowering strains). The fertiliser specially developed for autoflowering strains is very suitable. Auto-Flower Super Mix from Bio Nova. The last two weeks, as with normal varieties, are then only rinsed with water or special rinsing agents such as Final Flush from Grotek are used.

Number of plants in the growroom

As autoflowering strains don't grow huge and start flowering after a short time, you need to put more plants in your growroom than with normal, photoperiod strains. 12-25 plants per m², depending on how big the strain gets, should be enough, so you don't waste space and use the light effectively. Only if you have enough plants in your growroom, you will get big harvests.

Do not cut Automatics

Autoflowering varieties cannot be pruned like normal strains to make them bushier, they react negatively to stress training and stop growing. So it's better not to do it, otherwise the harvests will be poor. Moreover, it is not possible to cut cuttings from them. Their life cycle is too short and they only produce miniature plants.
