Will Luxembourg soon legalise cannabis?

Legalisation-Luxembourg

There are many indications that Luxembourg will be the first European country to legalise cannabis completely in the near future. Then the consumption of cannabis for purely pleasurable purposes would also be permitted. A few months ago, cannabis was already legalised as medicine in this small country and doctors of all specialities are now allowed to prescribe cannabis after having undergone special training. Now the complete legalisation of marijuana is to come, according to media reports.

Luxembourg and cannabis: the coalition agrees on legalisation

The coalition parties, the Greens, the liberal DP and the social democratic LSAP, will form the new government in Luxembourg. In the coalition negotiations, the parties agreed to allow cannabis as a stimulant. The exact details and how long the implementation will take are not yet known.

The Greens already advocated legalisation 5 years ago, but only recently did a quick legalisation of medical cannabis take place. Presumably the background is that the German stock exchange subsidiary Clearsrteam should be allowed to continue cannabis stock trading in Luxembourg. In addition, there was a citizens' petition that was signed by 4500 Luxemburgers within a very short time. For this reason, the coalition parties integrated the legalisation of cannabis in their election programme.

Coalition negotiations last only a few more days

The coalition negotiations will continue until 5 December and therefore no final statement can be made yet. However, the coalition partners are in agreement and therefore everything looks as if this legalisation could really happen.

Although there has been an open approach to cannabis in the Netherlands for decades, it has not yet been possible to set up a legal and regulated market for cannabis. Luxembourg, on the other hand, plans to implement legalisation quickly. Many users hope that Luxembourg will enshrine legalisation in the coalition agreement and finally implement it. A finally legalised cannabis market within the European Union would perhaps also bring more movement into the legalisation processes of other countries. We hope that Germany and Spain, as well as many other European countries, will take this as an impetus and see cannabis for what it is: a medicinal and pleasure plant that has its helpful and medicinal effects just like any other medicinal plant. In this context, we wish Europe would finally take a much more relaxed and enlightened approach to the subject. While the most poisonous fungicides and pesticides continue to receive exemptions without any consideration for the people it affects, the largest medicinal plant is still being hysterically accused of everything possible negative and is being elevated above free people by continuing to forbid in many parts to simply let one of the most beautiful plants grow. But it looks like we are on the right track....
