Do you know purple Dabs?

Purple Raisin

The Rosin technique is a very popular and now widely used method for producing cannabis extracts because it is easy and safe to use and does not require expensive equipment or accessories. If everything is done correctly, it can be used to produce your own high-quality extract with little effort.

For the Rosin technique you need a hair straightener or a Rosin press and parchment paper such as the Honeypaper. Only very resinous and especially purple colored buds should be used for this to get the best result. The extract that is produced by the Rosin technique can be dabbed like any other extract, i.e. vaporized on a titanium or ceramic nail, for example.

Cannabis has an incredible natural diversity of varieties. For centuries, the cannabis plant has been crossed and developed over and over again. This has created a colorful palette of infinitely different traits and profiles. Some cannabis plants contain high levels of anthocyanins. This causes the cannabis flowers to turn purple. Anthocyanins are flavonoids that also produce an intense reddish/purple or bluish color in blue cabbage or blueberries. Depending on the pH, the color spectrum can range from blue, purple, pink to red.

Anthocyanins can be found throughout the cannabis plant: in the leaves, stems, flowers and even roots. In cannabis, a relatively small amount of anthocyanins is enough to produce bright purple buds. Some cannabis plants produce flowers with a slight hint of pink or purple, other rarer specimens can become completely intense purple, from the root to the trichomes.

Purple buds are impressive, but purple dabs should be even more so. Through "try & error", the right stage in the drying process was discovered, where the anthocyanins can be extracted using the Rosin technique. The Rosin method uses heat and pressure to extract dabable cannabinoids and various terpenes.
Purple dabs use purple flowers, which contain high levels of anthocyanins. Like terpenes, the anthocyanin compound is extremely sensitive to moisture and oxidation.

The color anthocyanin as it appears to the human eye is directly related to the pH of the flower. When the flowers are hung to dry after harvesting, the pH increases day by day, at the same time moisture escapes from the bud. If the pH of the flowers is high instead of low, a golden raisin extract will result, even when the visible color of the flower is obviously bright purple. So there is a trick to it.

Here's how - Making Purple Dabs

The ideal time to extract anthocyanin-filled dabs is 36-48 hours after harvest, when the flowers still have a very low pH. At this time, the anthocyanins are mobile and soluble and can be extracted together with the trichomes. The concentrate will be purple in color as a result. The flowers still have a very high moisture content.

By using freshly harvested flowers, the extract is overly aromatic and at the peak of its terpene potential. It contains the full cannabis essences. This allows you to easily discover and enjoy the true individual aroma profile with the Rosin technique. At a later stage of the drying process, the flowers are still purple in color, but the anthocyanins are too unstable to become part of a cannabis concentrate.

Step 1:

First you need a hair straightener or a raisin press. This is heated to about 120 ° C as the initial temperature. It is best to use a press that has a temperature display/control, so you have more control. For example, this available in our store:

If 150°C is the lowest possible temperature, simply unplug the straightener before it reaches its full temperature.

Step 2

Next, take a vibrant purple fab (fresh, harvested 36-48 ago) bud (or several) and remove the stem from the end. This is pressed with your hands into a round shape.

Step 3:

Rosin-do-it-yourself

Step 4

Rosin technology

Remove the small raisin chips from the paper and carefully collect all the oil with a dabber and roll into a ball or plate. If the raisin can not be removed from the paper, you can simply put it in the freezer for some time, it will harden and can be easily removed from the parchment paper.

Step 5

The collected raisin should now be placed in the freezer, so that all the liquid still contained disappears. If the Purple Rosin is to be Shatter-like, it is kept in the freezer for a few days more, in an open anti-sticky container.

To keep the aroma and flavor as varied and original as possible, the temperature throughout the process should always be kept only as high as absolutely necessary and never too high. If the bud is pressed for too long, a slightly burnt taste will quickly develop. Making Purple Rosin takes a bit of practice, and you will certainly have to try it a few times until it becomes perfect. Finally, however, it is not difficult at all and you will quickly find your own way.

I follow your blog with great enthusiasm and eagerly await new articles 🙂 could you maybe do an article on the topic of crossing strains? How do you cross 2 plants, when do you pollinate the females, tips, tricks etc.? Would be very happy. Love and many skunk greetings 😉
