Cannabis tincture 2.0 - dissolving cannabinoids with nitrogen

Making cannabis tincture with nitrogen, medicinal cannabis recipes

Normally, cannabis tinctures, i.e. cannabinoids dissolved in alcohol, are produced by soaking cannabis in high-proof alcohol for several weeks. However, not only the substances responsible for the psychoactive effect and the aroma are dissolved, but also other substances are absorbed by the alcohol. These are responsible for the often musty taste and the rather depressing effect of the tinctures or cocktails made from them. In addition, the plant material dissolves over time, making the tincture count and less pleasant to consume.

A rather unknown but quite simple way to dissolve cannabinoids and terpenes in alcohol is to do it with the help of nitrogen and pressure. Only the small molecules responsible for the psychoactive effect are dissolved, these tinctures taste better and have a clearer spectrum of action.

All that is needed to produce cannabis tinctures is, apart from the weed, or rather, the crop, of course, high-percentage alcohol and a cream siphon with the corresponding N2O cattles. Due to the high pressure in the siphon, the nitrogen (N2O) and alcohol are pressed deep into the plant material and when the gas then abruptly escapes, the small molecules in the alcohol are dissolved. So much for the theory, how does the production of cannabis tinctures in this way work in practice?

Ingredients:

  • 10g cannabis (small buds, crop cuttings)
  • 500ml high-proof alcohol (min 80%), e.g. rum

Aids:

  • Heat-resistant cream siphon with associated nitrogen dioxide cartridges
  • Fine sieve or filter
  • Pot for the water bath

Manufacture:

  1. Decarboxilise the cannabis in the oven at 110°C for about 40 minutes. decarboxilate
  2. Roughly break apart the decarboxylated cannabis
  3. Fill cannabis and alcohol into the cream siphon and load the siphon with the cartridge
  4. Allow the mixture to set in the siphon for about 5 minutes
  5. Then operate the siphon and release the gas (as if you were making cream with it).
  6. Stir the mixture in the siphon until no more gas bubbles rise
  7. Simmer the sealed siphon in a hot water bath for one hour.
  8. Run the mixture through a fine sieve or filter - the cannabis tincture is ready!

Making cannabis tincture yourself with nitrogen, infused cocktails

The cannabis tincture can be used just like the conventional marijuana tincture for infused cannabis cocktails and for cooking or baking.
