Organic cannabis cultivation: Mixing soil yourself

Soil-mixing, mix your own soil, cannabis cultivation, growing tips

There is no substitute for good soil when growing marijuana and it is one of the main factors for success. When growing cannabis organically, many experienced growers and also medical growers rely on home-made soil mixtures, both indoors and outdoors. This involves a certain amount of effort and requires a little time and knowledge, but offers the grower some amazing advantages:

  • the taste and aroma of the finished buds is better
  • home-made soil mixtures can be used both indoors and outdoors
  • they contain purely natural and organic ingredients that can also be naturally degraded again.
  • Cultivation is easy and convenient, because once a good soil mixture with the right composition has been prepared, there is no need to worry about adding nutrients, which means that no further fertilisers need to be added. The plant is then able to get everything it needs for its healthy and successful development from this balanced soil mixture.

To mix the soil, use a large plastic tub, a children's paddling pool, etc.. For larger quantities, it is advisable to mix the soil on a clean, preferably new, fabric tarpaulin with a shovel. The most important thing is to mix the soil with the individual components very well and to take enough time to do this, otherwise different concentrations of fertiliser substances may appear in the pots and lead to undesirable results.

Cannabis soilfor 100 L of soil are needed:

  • 80 litres of standard soil/zero soil or an unfertilised/barely fertilised soil such as the Light Mixwhich is also used for seedlings and cuttings and contains only biological components. Or if you want to do it yourself: use a mixture of 1 part peat, 1 part compost and 1 part perlite (80%) as "basic soil".
  • 10 litres Perlite (10%)
  • 10 litres of the biological, self-mixed fertiliser components (10%)

The fertiliser components contain:

  • 0.25 L Lime
  • 8 L worm dung (e.g. Mega Worm from Plagron)
  • 0.25 litre horn meal
  • 0.25 litres horn shavings
  • 0.25 litre primary rock flour
  • 700g guano powder e.g. from Guanokalong
  • 300g fish flour, e.g. Fish Powder from Guankalong

The soil should be stored in air-permeable containers (plastic bags with sufficient air holes) so that it does not become mouldy and the soil mixture should be left for about 4 weeks so that the micro-organisms can multiply, start their work and nutrients are transformed so that they are available to and can be absorbed by the plants.
