Common beginner mistakes and what to do about them

Depending on the marijuana strain that is being grown, more or less experience and know-how is required in cultivation. Beginners can avoid a lot of mistakes by reading up on forums or from other experienced growers. After all, it is these mistakes that will later affect and reduce the yield and quality of the weed.

Touching the germinating seeds

Many beginnings fall into actionism (= excessive urge to do everything possible). But the fact is, never touch the germinating seeds, you might kill them. Leave them alone for the first few days. Be especially careful when handling young plants, they are still very sensitive. After the cannabis seeds have burst open, either in a jar of water or on a damp cloth, carefully transfer them to the planting medium. This should be moist, but in any case not too wet.

Too much texting

Many beginners are excited and in great anticipation. This leads to the fact that they can be tempted to tell everything possible around. But this is wrong! Keep it to yourself. The unadulterated joy will be so much more beautiful afterwards.

Overfertilisation

Many beginners tend to overfertilize their plants because they think they are doing their babies as much good as possible and you can get the highest yields with it. In reality, overfertilizing can be very harmful to the plants and have a negative impact on yields. Always follow your fertilizer manufacturer's prescribed fertilizer schedule. If you have any questions about this, just ask Juan. In general, you should stay below the manufacturer's instructions and use less fertilizer than more. The exact amount of fertilizer has a lot to do with feeling for different plant species and having a good eye for the plants and changes, and will take some experience to perfect. For starters, stick to the fertilizer scheme!

unknown seeds grown

If you grow seeds from any weed it can do well, but most of the time it won't come close to what it could become. There are very stable strains from different seed banks that are made to cope in specific conditions. "Street seeds" are also often contaminated with fungal spores and so the young seedling will already be infected and will develop poorly, if at all. There are now very inexpensive seed manufacturers who produce really convincing quality, there to save at the wrong end costs more afterwards.

Harvesting too early

Most common beginner's mistake, which is generated from a deep desire to have something now at all costs. Harvesting too early will result in a significant reduction in potency and quality of the weed. Let it finish and it will blow your mind 😉 Sometimes it is not easy to determine the right time to harvest, best use a small microscope and ask experienced growers. You can not always determine it clearly by the brown threads, especially not in outdoor growing, where very quickly threads turn brown by wind and small animals.

Overwatering

Especially at the beginning of the vegitation phase, but also later, overwatering can often lead to mold and thus dwarf growth or curly leaves or root rot. The plants remain forever small, you wonder why they do not grow, they are yellow and weak. Too much wetness and especially waterlogging in the plant pot can damage the plant. Beginners can especially avoid this by putting a thick layer of expanded clay (hydrocorrels) in the bottom of the pot. This will ensure that excess water drains away quickly. Use only small pots for seedlings and young plantlets, from which they can promptly carry away all water. The plant pot should not dry out, but it should in no case be soaking wet and only water again when about 2cm of the top layer of soil in the pot is dry again. Water seedlings at the beginning only drop by drop!

incorrect lighting

Many newcomers are not aware of how much light the plants need even at the beginning. After germination, they should be placed under a fluorescent tube, LED or energy-saving light right away (see The first days). and also for flowering they need the right lighting indoors. More about this you can find in the report about the Proper lighting of cannabis.
