Super Cropping

Supercropping, Cropping, Plant Training Methods, Grow Tips, Tutorial Supercropping

Super cropping is a way to increase the yields and potency of cannabis plants. The inner part of the plant is damaged while the outer layer remains unharmed. By breaking the xylene and pholem inside the branches, the stems and branches become more stable and the height growth of the plant is delayed, it grows much bushier, with more shoots and thus also flowers. Super cropping improves health, yield and potency.

Why does super cropping increase yields?

To understand why super cropping has positive effects on the harvest, one has to understand what is behind it. Cannabis is thought to produce THC and other cannabinoids as a natural defence against enemies. When the plant is stressed, it ramps up its cannabinoid production to protect itself. The result is bigger and, above all, cannabinoid-rich buds. The second idea behind super cropping is that, as with pruning, more power goes to the lower parts, as the higher parts are cropped to the same height. The plant should form as many branches as possible in order to produce more leaves, buds and also highly potent flowers.

Selection of suitable jobs

Since not all strains react equally well to super cropping, if you don't know whether the strain is suitable, you should first try it out in one spot to see how the plant copes. As noted above, you can both improve the growth habit of the plant and increase the potency of the buds. The best time to produce bushy girls is after about 2-3 weeks of vegetative phase, when the plant starts pre-flowering. You can continue until she has finished growing lengthwise and the increased flowering starts. To increase cannabinoid production, the 1st or 2nd week of flowering is best. A later time is not favourable and tends to have a negative effect.

For super cropping, the branches should no longer be fresh but still green and flexible. If the branches are already too woody, they will break off easily and damage the plant. The areas between the leaf nodes or, in the case of side branches, the area between the main stem and the first leaf node of the side shoot are suitable.

The actual cropping

Super CroppingThe selected spot is fixed between the thumb and index finger with firm pressure and turned ever so slightly back and forth between the fingers (quite often one after the other). This is done until you notice that the inside is "broken". This should be done gently and slowly so that the outer layer of the plant is not damaged. You will know you have done everything right when the treated shoot is at a 90° angle and looks "broken" at first glance.

If everything went smoothly and the outer bark of the plant remained unharmed, you have already done it and only have to wait until the plant has repaired its inner life after about a week. A thick node grows at the spot, which can transport more water, nutrients and hormones than before. Now you can continue cropping on the same shoot.

If you have damaged the outer layer when cropping, you must help the plant to heal. The affected area is wrapped with a firm adhesive tape. This closes and protects the wound. After about 1.5 weeks, you can carefully remove the tape and check the area. Normally, the area will have closed up again. It is normal for the former wound to become slightly discoloured. If the wound has not yet healed, it can be closed again with tape. Through the closure, the plant can continue to transport nutrients and carry out all vital processes.

Cannabis strains that are very suitable for super cropping:

Most strains react positively to super cropping, with pure Sativas and Haze one should be careful or do without it. In principle, strains that grow with many side branches are better than those that consist mainly of a headbud. Here are 5 strains that are excellent for super cropping:
