What are actually terpenes?
More than 8,000 terpenes and over 30,000 of the closely related terpenoids are known to date. Most terpenes are natural substances, mainly of plant origin and rather rarely of animal origin. In nature, mainly hydrocarbon, alcohol, glycoside, ether, aldehyde, ketone, carboxylic acid and ester terpenes occur, but representatives of other substance groups can also be found among the terpenes. Terpenes are the main component of essential oils produced in plants. Due to the size and diversity of terpenes, there are several classifications. Terpenes give orange blossoms, roses, lavender and cannabis their unique aroma. A mixture of different terpenes gives each cannabis variety its special and individual smell.

Important: What must be considered when using terpenes?
The terpenes should not be vaporized, ingested or smoked undiluted. They must always be dissolved in something, e.g. in extracts or oils. They should also not be applied directly and purely to the skin, because their concentration is strong and they could irritate the skin.

Can terpenes be evaporated?
Terpenes can be vaporized, because their boiling point is (mostly) between 119° C and 224° C. For evaporation they are added under the buds or the extract.
How much should I add to an extract?
No more than 4% of terpenes should be added per gram of extraction. This is about one drop and is sufficient to restore the lost flavor.
