Growing cannabis outdoors is the easiest and cheapest way to meet your own needs. Here are some helpful tips that you should keep in mind when growing outdoors:

1.) Selecting the right seeds: The seeds should be fresh and of good quality. You should not save money in the wrong place and choose cannabis varieties that are especially suitable for outdoor growing. Depending on the climatic region, you then choose the appropriate variation. Only high-quality seeds with stable and healthy genetics will produce plants that are strong enough for outdoor conditions (wind, storm, rain, pests...).

Here are some cannabis strains that are suitable for outdoor growing in cooler and wetter climates:

2.) Selection of the right location: There should be plenty of direct sunlight. Where nettles grow is usually a good location for cannabis plants. They indicate that there are a lot of nutrients in the soil. There should not be too many and too dense other plants in competition and too close. Even better than using the existing soil is to dig a planting hole and place the cannabis plants in good pre-fertilised grower soil. This will give the best results. The plants should be protected from wild bites and unwanted glances. Keep in mind that some sativa strains can grow really tall (up to 4m high) and develop a considerable girth. Also, many open spaces are cultivated throughout the year and are not safe. If you have little space, you should use smaller strains, of course.

3.) Watering: In summer, you often have to water daily, even twice a day depending on the temperature, size and dryness. This should be taken into account when choosing a suitable location. In the garden by the house this is certainly not a problem, but guerrilla growing in the pampas should better be done near a watering hole. It is conspicuous and not feasible to bring in large amounts of water every day ;). You should bear in mind that many outdoor plants can become very large and/or extremely bushy, i.e. they really need a lot of water. With 2 litres per plant you usually don't get very far.

4.) Grow indoors: Until they have reached a size of about 15-30 cm (which happens in about 4 weeks) the cannabis plants should be grown indoors, e.g. under fluorescent tubes or an energy-saving lamp. The bigger the plant, the more resistant and better the growth. From the beginning/middle of April you can put your babies outdoors, at the latest by the end of May until

You should have the plants out by the beginning of June.

5.) Outdoor "exposure": Place the plants on the windowsill or outside a few days beforehand so that they can adapt to the outdoor conditions. Dig a large hole in a suitable place outside, a good bit larger than the root ball of the plant. Place the plant with the entire root ball in this hole and fill the empty space with fresh cannabis soil, so that the plant is not immediately placed in completely new and different soil and can first acclimatise. If you want to set the plantlets out in mid-May, for example, you should choose an exposure time of approx. 15.5 hours beforehand. In mid-May, the temperatures in Central Europe are then high enough so that the cannabis plant can continue to grow outside without much stress. Depending on the region and climatic conditions, possibly earlier.

Note: Plants that are planted out early in spring often grow very large, but they take significantly longer to start flowering. As the days get longer and longer until 21 June, the plant that was put out too early does not realise that it is now time to flower. It takes until mid-August and then finally realises that it should be flowering. It produces its buds only in August and September or even later. The result is huge trees with small buds. This is because the sunlight is not as strong in September. The climate is humid, it gets colder and cloudier just when the buds are supposed to ripen and need especially much light. If the plant is put out later, it finds that the days don't get longer at all. It starts to flower earlier, develops better and gets bigger flowers that have the opportunity to ripen than a plant that was brought out in April. It is best to bring the plants outside on 1 June.

6.) the outdoor flower: Dhe 12 hours of darkness when growing with artificial light trigger the flowering. In the wild, there is only enough dark time from September for the plant to start flowering.

Tip: Induce flowering in outdoor plants

-> For potted plants outdoors, you can help yourself with a trick: To trigger flowering before September and ensure that the plants can also mature: Put the plants in a completely dark room for 12 hours every evening at the same time. If you initiate flowering in July, you will be able to take full advantage of the August sun and get outdoor grass that will be as good as indoor grass.

In the greenhouse, you can simulate the corresponding dark time of 12 hours by covering with cloths or black and white film.

7.) Attention mould growth: In autumn it rains frequently in some regions and the temperatures drop. Then you have to watch out for mould and check regularly. Especially with the thick buds. Mould (botrytis ) forms mainly inside the flower and is often not (really) visible from the outside. Withering leaves can sometimes be an indication that the flower is mouldy on the inside. Mouldy parts must be removed immediately with at least 1 cm of the healthy surrounding area. Wilted and dead leaves should also be removed immediately. Mouldy parts of the plant must not be smoked. This is harmful to health.

The following varieties are particularly resistant to mould and are very suitable for outdoor growing:
