The pH value is of considerable importance in the cultivation of plants. It indicates the acidity of substrates, irrigation water and nutrient solutions. Overall, the pH value can be between 0 and 14. In strongly acidic or alkaline media, plants can no longer absorb certain nutrients. In addition, some nutrients can be released in large quantities under the conditions, so that they then also have a damaging effect.

Conductivity (EC value) is a relevant parameter in plant cultivation. It is the ability of a medium to conduct an electric current. It can be used to measure the fertiliser content in the nutrient solution.
