Borlotti beans are robust and hardy. To ripen they need sufficient light and temperature. The beans are about 12-14 cm long and have a green-red speckled pod. They are an important source of protein for humans and at the same time a tasty vegetable that can be used in many dishes. Like all bean varieties, borlotti beans have many vitamins, such as vitamin B1 and E, but also beta carotene and folic acid. They also contain many nutrients such as iron, calcium, potassium, magnesium, phosphorus and manganese.
All bean species enrich the soil with solid nitrogen from the air and are therefore excellent companion plants for cannabis but also for carrots, potatoes, beets, strawberries, radishes, peas, maize, aubergines and cucumbers.

- Borlotti beans are harvested only when the pods are already dried and brown.
- the young pods can be cut and used like ordinary beans
- the plants need only little fertiliser but sufficient water in summer at higher temperatures

- The planting distance should be 40-60 x 8-10 cm
- the seeds should be planted 5 cm deep and pressed down well.
